HYUNDAI TRANSYS Leads Innovation in Electric Vehicle Seats

- World-first technologies including “Dynamic Body Care” and “Low-Power Carbon-Heating Wire” applied to the “EV9” electric vehicle
- Securing a leading position in future mobility space solutions by developing new technologies tailored to electric vehicle platforms

HYUNDAI TRANSYS, a creative front-runner in future mobility innovation, is leading the invention of electric vehicle interiors by introducing seat technology that aligns with the transition to electrification.

For electric vehicles, it is important to have low-power and lightweight technologies to increase power consumption efficiency (electricity efficiency) and technologies that can efficiently configure the interior space enabled by simplifying the drivetrain.

HYUNDAI TRANSYS has applied the world’s first “Dynamic Body Care” and “Low-Power Carbon-Heating Wire” technology, codeveloped with Hyundai Motors and Kia, and Korea’s first “Tilting-type Walk-in” technology to Kia’s “EV9,” boosting the satisfaction of electric vehicle customers.

“Dynamic Body Care” is a system that provides a massage feature in the vehicle by combining tapping motions and vibration. Unlike existing pneumatic and vibrational methods, it allows for comfortable rest to second-row passengers by delivering a direct stimulus to the body. The intensity and method of the massage, including five levels of tapping and three levels of vibration, can be adjusted through a dedicated display.

In particular, the second-row relaxation seat equipped with “Dynamic Body Care” maximizes comfort with personalized features such as a one-touch relax mode, adjustable leg rest and armrests, and a wing-out headrest.

“Low-Power Carbon-Heating Wire” is a seat-heating wire system using metal-coated carbon fiber. Using carbon has increased durability more than twice compared to the existing metal heating wire, and the power consumption has been reduced by more than 15%, which can help improve power consumption efficiency.

The “Tilting-type Walk-in Technology” has improved the inconvenience of the second-row seat that is moved back and forth when getting on and off the third row. By employing a tilting method where the second-row seat tilts forward, the space for getting on and off is more than twice as wide, and it can also operate with a child car seat on, increasing convenience.

HYUNDAI TRANSYS plans to continue the innovation of vehicle seats in the era of electrification by combining the know-how of electric vehicle seats accumulated through the development of seats with American electric vehicle companies, Rivian Automotive and Lucid Motors, and the comfort technology gained through the development of seats for flagship cars such as Genesis G90.

Moreover, HYUNDAI TRANSYS continuously develops electrified powertrain technology for electric vehicle platforms. HYUNDAI TRANSYS’ AWD Disconnector Actuator System (DAS) for electric vehicles is installed in E-GMP–based vehicles, including the EV9, to improve driving range.
